Our chickens have been pecking at each other and losing feathers for a while. Then, a few weeks ago, we found a chicken dead in the chicken yard. We wondered why... ... we posted on backyard chicken and got a reply saying probably lice/mites. We couldn't find any mites in the daytime, and we would have checked the chickens for mites at night if we hadn't read that at night mites will readily bite humans. We have found what we believe to be mites in the coop during the day; which would make sense if they were chicken mites. Actually, right now we are waiting for a reply on backyard chicken to find out if there is an effective organic mite killer.
So that's what's going on at our house.
